The popular myth
There is a very popular myth in spiritual circles. The idea being that where spiritual services and work is concerned, there should be no money exchanged, because it is unspiritual.
The problem with this fallacy is that it is harmful not only to those offering spiritual services but also to those seeking them, let me explain.
There are laws governing the universe, the most known and trendy of these has to be the Law Of Attraction, however, there are others too and one of these is the Law Of Exchange. That is, energy only truly moves if it is being exchanged for other energy.
A simply process, but one which gets people confused. Money is seen as a bad thing to many and an evil by some. But, money isn’t bad or evil; it’s simply a form of energy which can be exchanged for other forms of energy.
Now, when someone has the benefit of a spiritual service (An exchange of energy) but gives nothing in return, this leaves a vacuum which must be filled.
Before anyone says that this is an unfair and grasping way of looking at a spiritual subject, just let me illustrate this. I mentioned money as a form of exchange, but it doesn’t have to be money, so long as there is an energy-exchange.
Native American healers for instance, always expect to be given tobacco, sometimes other things, however, tobacco is the standard expected even from the poorest of their clients.
They are not profiting from this, as most of them are extremely poor themselves, no, it is because they fully understand that without some form of energy exchange the healing or other spiritual work will be weakened.
Back to money, money has no use beyond its value of exchange, you can’t eat money, clothe yourself with it. In fact the only thing you could do of a practical nature would be to burn it to keep warm, providing it’s the paper stuff.
Money is only ever useful when it is in circulation being used as a form of exchange. I use energy during a session, both physical in the form of my own energy and also things like lights, heating, internet, candles, herbs, oils, cards and such.
My client pays me money as a form of energy exchange and I use that money to exchange for food and to help pay my bills. This, then, is a perfect exchange of energy. There is no vacuum left behind.
Somewhere in the distant past, the idea was postulated that spiritual people should also be poor people. It is the same thinking which decided that being rich was a bad and corrupting thing.
Money, as I have shown, is nothing by itself, it is only how it is put to use as a tool that it has any power. For a few years, we used part of our energy exchange from our clients to help a charity in India.
This was a wonderful energy exchange because we exchanged our services and a part of the payment coming in moved out to help put children through school. Children, who without this assistance, would have been be kept in poverty and forced to work in the handmade carpet industry.
Over the years, we helped a number of these children and were able to watch them bloom through our help. This would not have been possible if we offered our services free or for a pittance. These days we still donate a portion of our earnings to a worthwhile charity. At the time of writing, that charity is The British Red Cross.
There is no nobility in poverty; there is, of course, no shame either. I have been poor and, in fact, grew up in poverty myself.
Working in a spiritual area is no different from working in an office, factory or as a doctor, nurse or engineer. A school teacher for example would never agree to a school asking them to teach for nothing. The same would go for any other worker.
Charity work is a different thing altogether and no charity worker works full time with nothing in return, because they couldn’t live. For example full time charity aid workers and office staff receive full wages. Volunteers agree to donate a small amount of free time and they exchange goodwill and a feeling of helping others in exchange for their work.
As you look around you’ll notice that everything is in a constant state of energy exchange. Buy a coffee and enjoy the experience. To be a truly prosperous person is to be successful on every level, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically and financially, otherwise that person is out of balance.
